Xavier coach Chris Mack injured his knee during practice at Fordham, a day before the Rams were set to host the Musketeers, accroding to ESPN's Dino Gaudio.
Mack was in the layup line during a drill, taking shots with the players when he came down funny on his second attempt.
He was treated at a local hospital and is expected to have knee surgery sometime early next week after returning to Cincinnati. He will still coach the game tomorrow.
Also on Friday, Xavier canceled "reflection" sessions that were to be mandatory for students who attended a December basketball game against crosstown rival Cincinnati that ended in a brawl.
In a message sent to undergraduates and members of the media, the school's provost and student president say the university will instead hold a non-mandatory discussion next week. The change was made in response to student feedback on the earlier plan sent Thursday by the dean of students.
That email said fans in the student section contributed to a "hostile atmosphere" and that they would be barred from receiving home tickets for the season if they didn't attend one of three reflection sessions.
The Friday email says the new approach will focus on supporting the basketball team and Xavier values.
Information from ESPN's Dino Gaudio and The Associated Press was used in this report.
